A spurtle is a traditional Scottish stirrer, originally dating from the 15th century, that is used to stir porridge, soups, stews, and broths. Unlike a spoon, it has no bowl, so it stirs without collecting lumps. The top of this one is turned in the traditional thistle shape. A practical everyday stirrer for the pot.
