Description:
This bowl is made from NZ Native Matai dug from the wet sands near Levin with hydraulic diggers. The dark colour of swamp Matai comes from acids in the swamp reacting with the tannin in the timber. That is in stark contrast to the bright honey-coloured Matai used extensively for flooring in New Zealand homes up to the 1950s.
Blue resin with hints of red has been used in this piece, which is turned in a classic Viking bowl shape. A distinctive bowl with a strong form.
Finish: Hand finished with Tung oil and Wax.
