This bowl is made from plantation-grown American White Oak — a hard, heavy timber usually plain and uniform in appearance, and often used in construction, furniture, shelving and flooring.
This piece is an exception. The grain is unusually lively for White Oak, with bold, wavy bands across the interior and fine ray fleck catching the light. We often say Red Oak is more flamboyant than White Oak; this platter shows that White Oak can put on a show as well. A useful platter with unexpected figure.
Finish: Hand finished with Tung oil and Wax.
